February Meeting (February 11, 2013)

Date:   Monday, February 11th
Time:   6pm to 8pm (superbuzzy open at 5pm)

Our program for this meeting will be our MQG Madrona Road Challenge creations. If you participated in the challenge please bring your quilted item (completed or in process) to the meeting. We want to see them all!

Don’t forget your napkin for our February challenge. The napkin should follow the modern quilting aesthetic. Check out this blog post with links to napkin tutorials.

We want to give a big “Thank You!” to Georganna, Elfriede, and Sandy for bringing snacks to our February meeting.

If you owe, but missed paying your 2013 dues in January, Susan will be at our February meeting to collect them.

Our Vice-President Rob will be holding a raffle during the February meeting. Prizes include (but not limited to…hint, hint) gift certificates from Art & Jenny’s Sewing Machine Center, Quilt Ventura, and Homespun Treasures. Tickets are two ($2.00) dollars each or 3 for five ($5.00) dollars. Don’t forget your (George) Washingtons and (Abe) Lincolns.

Please RSVP by leaving a comment.

We might be short on chairs for this meeting. If you can bring your own portable chair it would be greatly appreciated!

Chicago MQG Member Jacquie Gering on The Quilt Show!

For a limited time, The Quilt Show is offering free viewing of a recent segment featuring author (Quilting Modern:  Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts) and Chicago MQG member Jacquie Gering! The free download for the segment expires either January 27th or February 11th (conflicting information), so hop on over asap! I really enjoyed Jacquie’s demo and explanation of her process for a wonky log cabin, as well as her quilting demonstration. Don’t miss the few minutes at the very end of the show where Jacquie describes a very special, quilting-themed get together! Happy Viewing!

February 2013 Block Challenge

Hello Everyone!

We had a great meeting, January 14th!  It was wonderful to see everyone, meet new guests and new members!

Our February Block Challenge is to make a napkin! Yes, a napkin. 🙂  A napkin of the modern esthetic, naturally.  We thought that in an effort to reduce our impact on the environment, it would be cool if everyone made a napkin to use at our meetings. If enjoy making one, make a set for your home! Have fun doing this and don’t stress about it.   I searched online for some tutorials.  Here are a few to give you some ideas.

Have fun! ~ Maureen

I found some great napkin tutorials online:
