Location: Ventura Masonic Center, 482 E. Santa Clara St., Ventura

Presentation: Becky H will present information about improv quilting, another request from our survey of guild members last spring. Becky has always been on the cutting edge of improv, so it will be great to hear from her!
Refreshments: On the list for August – Jenn Rodriguez, Tisha Maeda, and Lynn Hofflund will provide us with snacks and liquid refreshment during the break in the meeting. Thank you for keeping us nourished.
Challenge: Graph Paper Challenge – From Sarah W. Create a block (or quilt top) using a design laid out on graph paper. Use design from workshop (see below), or inspired by another quilt patters, a specific fabric or shape, a style of quilt. See our Challenges pagefor more information and a link to Sarah’s presentation.
Coming Up: Our Quilt University will be back in session for our first fall meeting in September. Do you have a technique or strategy that you’d like to share in a 12-15 minute presentation to a small group? Judy Chaffee will present “Flip Triangles,” Barbara O’Grady will share binding techniques … per the results of the annual survey, we will have presentations on free motion quilting using a domestic machine to take away the fear of free motion in October.
Michael Miller Challenge Fabric is here! If you signed up with MQG for QuiltCon 2017, please pick up your fabric at the meeting. Note: there are two different colors, so step up to have a choice.
Quilt Exhibit: We have been invited to participate in a display of modern quilts on Sunday, September 18th in conjunction with the Simi Valley Quilt Show. There is room for about ten large, bed-sized quilts, or more if some are wall hangings. Please look over your quilt cupboard to see what you can display. All quilts need to have labels, with your name, the quilt’s name, and date. We will have sign-ups on Monday evening.
Opportunity Quilt: Our beautiful opportunity quilt, Wonkstellation, is ready for display! Thanks to everyone who created stars, planned and pieced, quilted, bound and finished — and provided emotional and financial support! We couldn’t have such an incredible quilt without all our members. We are setting up a schedule of Saturdays where the quilt can be displayed at a local quilt shop and we can sell tickets for the drawing. Quilt Ventura, superbuzzy, Homespun Treasures, and Fabric Town are all on board with us! It’s great to have such support from our quilting community. Which Saturday can you help out?
Philanthropy: The heart quilt for the Orlando Pulse night club victims is nearing completion. More details on Monday night at the meeting. Shout-out to Jenn R for organizing the creation of this piece.
SEW-IN scheduled for September 14th (Wednesday) from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. We will be meeting in our regular room at the Masonic Center (the dining room), so bring extension cords and surge protectors with your sewing machines.
Library: Judy Hunt, Library Chair, has organized the growing selection of books and magazines available to check out for a month. If you have an item at home, please return it at the meeting so that it’s available for the next reader.
Step up to volunteer:
- To sell raffle tickets at a Saturday or Sunday event
- To work on the Pulse Orlando quilt
- To share an idea that has helped you with some aspect of quilting.
- To bring snacks for a future meeting.
